Celebrating 40 years of Hästens Blue Check

In 1978, former Hästens CEO Jack Ryde designed the blue-and-white check pattern in order to add freshness to the dark brown and orange color palette that dominated furniture design in the 1970s. But making the bed bolder on the outside was only half of his idea.

The real beauty of Jack’s checks is that they serve as a template of precise right angles and straight lines, ensuring fantastic precision and consistent handcrafting by the men and women who build each Hästens bed. It’s a perfect example of form and function working in harmony.  Today, the check pattern has become an iconic symbol for one of the world’s finest handmade beds.  Hästens beds have been handmade in Sweden for six generations since 1852.
